The production of Forged in Fire Latin America, Season 5 presented a monumental challenge: to film a reality show with high-risk elements—fire, forged weapons, and heavy tools—in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge was twofold: not only to maintain the integrity of a set with inherent dangers but also to protect the crew, host, and judges from an unpredictable virus. The mission was to guarantee total safety in an environment where the slightest error could have serious consequences.
My role as Production Manager was the central piece of this safety operation. I implemented and supervised a meticulous biosafety protocol for COVID, and at the same time, I ensured that all safety standards for handling fire and weapons were strictly met. My approach was to manage a set that allowed the bladesmiths to compete and the cameras to capture the show's intensity, while I made sure that the safety of every person was the top priority. This role demanded my constant attention to detail, merging production management with risk management.
The result is a successful season that not only entertained the audience but also became an example of safe production in a time of crisis. Filming was completed without major incidents, and the final show is a testament to how a disciplined team, under leadership focused on safety, can overcome any obstacle. The project proved that with the right planning, the history of the craft and the value of entertainment can be honored without ever compromising the team's safety.
